Present concerns of the Islands Commission

The following concerns are currently high on the Islands Commission’s agenda:

Effectively implementing the Constitutional Treaty provisions regarding territorial cohesion in general and the islands in particular in the context of EU policies.

Introducing a differential in favour of the islands, both in terms of structural policies and under competition policy

Recognising that islands are particularly vulnerable in the areas of transport, environment and energy, and where necessary, adopting special provisions to take into account the specific situation of these regions

Setting up an "ad hoc" interservices structure within the European Commission to appraise the individual situation of island regions, so as to foster policies best suited to their needs.
